The Sublime Paintings of Josh Keyes
I recently discovered the work of Josh Keys, a Portland based painter, whose work wrestles with the interaction of nature and society. His pieces show wild animals in urban settings, often devoid of people. His painting style is both hyper-realistic and absurd, suggesting that the environments we build for ourselves are often that — only for ourselves. Other species look out of place, lost. Or maybe they’re taking back the suburban landscape of former forests and prairies, resettling lands that were once their own.
