Speirs + Major’s Usher Hall Chandelier

Speirs + Major were invited to re-light Usher Hall in Edinburgh, one of Scotland’s main historic arts venues. The project was part of a major refurbishment, led by architects LDN, to upgrade the building and add a modern extension.

The chandelier is located in the newly constructed spiral staircase, which links the original Usher Hall building with its new extension. The cylindrical concrete construction of the stairwell presented us with a considerable design challenge. The nature of the materials and purity of the design meant it was difficult to fix lighting in a way that would appear architecturally integrated.
